Why Is Washington So Un-Important?

I was thinking, all of the more influential and important cities in the world are capitals, such as Paris, London, Berlin. Tokyo Etc
This makes sense because every country wants their capital to be the prime economic, cultural, and intellectual center so they can impress foreigners. Why is it that the capital of the most powerful country by far (USA) Washington is so weak compared to other capital cities?>
