Ladies and Gentlement,
There is a deadly problem in Mumbai right now. Its FSI (Floor Space Index, or the ration of a buildings height to the amound of land it sits on) is very low (4). Mumbai's growth is constricted to a small island, which is housing 18 million people. People complain about lack of green space, and blame the developers who are building hi-rises. In the 70s, communist planners thought that skyscrapers were elitist, so they made laws against them, resulting in a sea of mid-rises taking up every single green space.
It is unrealistic for a metropolis of 18 million to have the FSI of 4. Seoul, with less people, has the FSI of 15 (not sure, must be higher now), and Dubai has the FSI of 35.
Post any suggestions here...preferably if you have seen Mumbai, or live there.>
